Understanding How Lean Concepts Change the Game

Speaker:

Tom Robinson, Lean Project Consulting

Abstract:

Can lean concepts really change the game?  During this CoP meeting we will use specialized games to illustrate the effects of multi-tasking and the power of collaboration.  Participants, whether new to lean philosophy or well versed in the jargon will gain and share perspectives not only on the underlying theory, but how to apply the knowledge on the job – starting the next day.

Date and Time:

Wednesday, June 15, 2011 5:30pm-7:45pm

Registration / Cancellation Deadline: Monday, June 13, 2011.  There will be no refunds after this time. Each person must register and pay to attend the meeting and dinner. Please help us save time, expense, and avoid people showing up at the last minute… plan ahead and register early! We cannot keep costs reasonable and caterers cannot plan their food without sufficient notice.

Late Registration Deadline: Wednesday, June 15, 2011.  Available after closing of regular registration. Completed registrations are still subject to availability.

Value-Added Proposition:

Participants will be able to expand their network of “lean thinkers” and learn key lessons all while having a great time.   Don’t plan on sitting through another PowerPoint presentation – you will be involved in the whole program.

Note to First Time Attendees and Others New to Lean Construction:

LCI Cascadia Community of Practice

The Lean Construction Institute (LCI), a non-profit research organization, was founded in August 1997. LCI's purpose is to develop and disseminate new knowledge regarding the management of work in design, engineering and construction for capital facilities. LCI has developed the Lean Project Delivery System© (LPDS), and the Last Planner® System of production control. Lean Construction is a production management-based approach to project delivery - a new way to design and build capital facilities. Lean production management has caused a revolution in manufacturing design, supply and assembly. Applied to construction, Lean changes the way work is done throughout the delivery process. Lean Construction extends from the objectives of a lean production system - maximize value and minimize waste - to specific techniques and applies them in a new project delivery process extending from project definition through design, supply and assembly.

The Cascadia Community of Practice (CoP) of LCI serves the BC, WA, and OR region, providing local lean support to owners, architects and designers, engineers, contractors, specialty contractors, and suppliers.  We invite owners and project delivery team members to meet together as a local user group to learn, share, and develop a lean community. As a regional forum for conversations among practitioners, the CoP will help create a new common sense for the AEC industry as LCI continues to build knowledge in design and construction.
